Importance of Attendance

Dear parents/caregivers,

As we begin our second semester at Al Fortune this school year, I would like to remind everyone of the importance of showing up everyday. Regular school attendance is the key to enabling students to maximize the educational opportunities available to them and become emotionally resilient, confident and competent adults who are able to realize their full potential and make a positive contribution to their community.

We do understand that there are many reasons that a student may not be able to attend school everyday. This is especially true during the Covid-19 pandemic. Please continue to make sure your child is completing the health checklist before coming to school. We would like to do our best to support families to ensure students can be at school as much as possible and reach their full potential. Here are a few things that we are going to be doing next semester.

· Teachers will be reaching out to families of students with unexcused absences to make sure that families understand what work is being missed.

· We will be sending an anonymous survey to our students to find out if there are ways we can support them in improving school attendance. (Please email Mr. Matheson if you would not like your child to receive this survey).

· We would also like to remind parents/caregivers that if you know your child will be absent, it is important that you let us know. Please phone the school in the morning and leave a message (250) 838-6431 or email Tracey Castle . This will ensure that you do not receive an e-mail or call from your child’s teacher.

Thank you for your support in making sure that your child comes to school as much as possible even if it may be difficult.
